The mission of FACE INDIA is to expand horizons by organizing volunteer camps through out India with help of national and
international volunteer organizations, institutes and colleges and bringing people of different cultures, languages and regions together. Our program benefits the people of different age groups and the volunteers who take part in our programs have good experience. Our mission is guided by four principles: fostering creativity in children and adults, promoting understanding through cross-cultural exchange, spreading the spirit of volunteerism, and providing substantive and rewarding work experience for young people. |

Cross-Cultural Exchange:
In an age when the world is becoming smaller, the occasions for cross-cultural encounters increase rapidly, and so does the possibility for misunderstanding. Our volunteers, students together with local community, have an opportunity to interact with people whom they might never otherwise meet. The form of interaction that takes place on a program like ours is unlike the impressions one gets from sight-seeing in a foreign country, or simply being introduced to a person with a different nationality or background. Our volunteers and hosts live together, eat together, and learn to acknowledge, as well as respect, the things that make them different, as well as those things they have in common. This intimate environment has produced volunteers and hosts who are aware of cultural differences, and who are more sensitive to the diversity that exists across borders |

Fostering Creativity:
In many of the countries in which we have programs, the predominate method of learning a new language is still rote memorization. Students are expected to acquire a second language through grammar translations and taking dictation. Our programs provide an opportunity for students to express the creative parts of their intellect in a dynamic environment where learning happens through creating shared understanding. Our volunteers are encouraged to play games with the kids, whether it's the hokey pokey, or designing an ideal city. Our classes are taught in a seminar format, with students seated in a circle so that everyone is on equal ground. The teachers maintain the order in class, but they have as much to learn as the students. Learning and understanding take place in our classes through creative problem solving and lots of improvisation. |
